Fritz and Alma Meier Nature Preserve

Immediately north of the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy-owned Red Rock Canyon Park in the Old Topanga Watershed, the 120-acre Fritz and Alma Meier Nature preserve includes striking colored sandstone formations and a year-round water source for wildlife. A trail winds through the property.

Directions: From Mulholland Highway in Calabasas, take Old Topanga Road south to Zuniga Road. Turn right. Take Zuniga Road to its terminus. Park in front of the park entrance sign.

The acquisition of the property was made possible by a donation from local conservationist Alma Meier, as well as a grant from the State Coastal Conservancy, the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, the Habitat Conservation Fund (Proposition 117) and the Safe Neighborhood Parks, Clean Water, Clean Air, and Coastal Protection Bond Act of 2000 (Proposition 12).
