As the Los Angeles River travels its final stretch to Long Beach, the amount of open space and parkland decreases and level of industrialization increases. Maywood Riverfront Park enhances an area criss-crossed by railroad tracks and former brownfields. The park offers a green oasis in one of the most densely populated portions of Southern California. A level area provides green lawns, rapidly growing shade trees, and small hillocks a stone’s throw from the Los Angeles River channel. Efforts are underway to expand the park and create a high quality connection to the river channel.
